The Birds are Singing Away in our Gardens Every Day!

It’s wonderful to enjoy listening to the birds singing in our gardens. Their songs are so loud, sometimes we can even hear them through our windows! They are super busy right now building nests and looking after chicks. Many of us have spotted nests in our gardens- under the eaves of roofs, in trees, in our nesting boxes! How many pairs of nesting birds outside can you spot? Do you know their names? Here are the most common birds which appear frequently, or visit our island. If you click on each picture or name you can hear their song, and maybe you could be an ACE DETECTIVE and recognise their voices outside!
Have fun testing yourself and your family 😃

Exploring our School Garden with Dave – 2nd class

Exploring our School Garden with Dale

Second class were so lucky to have Dale from ‘Heritage in Schools’ in the class for the day. During his visit we enjoyed doing bark rubbings on the different trees in our school garden. He shook the branches and we examined what minibeasts fell from the tree. We used magnifying glasses to spot spiders, centipedes, woodlice and lots more! We looked at all the colourful flowers and observed bees, wasps and hoverflies.

It’s wonderful to recognize what is growing and living all around Ballyraine NS. Dale even gave us lots of information about dinosaurs and fossils too! We learnt so many cool facts.
