Ballyraine NS has a long association with Pushkin Trust and we were delighted to celebrate the dedication and work of the Trust in promoting the creative arts in our schools. Last year, Ballyraine National School was given the ‘Rewarding Creativity’ Award for our collaborative project involving parents and pupils, which culminated in the publication of ‘Let Go, Let Fly’. Our school has also recently been awarded the 8th European Green Flag for Environmental Awareness and Care.
The Royal visit was a terrific success. We have received so many messages of congratulations this morning, commenting on the very warm welcome which the Duchess was given and how well the pupils interacted with our special guest during the visit.
Fourth Class got the party off to a flying start with their samba rhythms.
Well done R. S. who presented the duchess with flowers on her arrival.
During the visit The Duchess visited Senior Infants to see their production of ‘Chicken Licken’ – well done Senior Infants and Mrs McLaughlin.
She also visited 6th Class who were reading extracts from their creative writing and she was very impressed with I.’s writing about the aftermath of the hurricane, well done 6th Class and Ms McMullan.
It was then time to meet our ‘Pushkin Parent Group’ in the port who outlined their creative projects to the Duchess.
The Polytunnel team and the Farm managers gave an excellent guided tour of the school grounds and our environmental projects.
The visit concluded with 3rd and 4th Class singing, 6th Class Tin Whistle performance and presentation of gifts to The Duchess including a book of ‘Irish Legends’ presented by A. H.
The Duchess signed a visitor’s book and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
Our school and the school grounds were looking terrific during the visit too.
It was a real privilege to be chosen for the visit and The Duchess of Cornwall commented just before leaving for Glenveagh that she had ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ her visit to Ballyraine N.S. and that the pupils were very talented, and that she felt there was a very happy atmosphere in the school.
A day to remember in the history of our school.
Thank you once again to our FANTASTIC staff for all their hard work and dedication in preparing for the visit.
Ballyraine NS is so successful because it is based on partnership and working together.
Great things will always be achieved through ‘teamwork’ and we are truly blessed to have such interested, helpful and positive parents!
With sincere thanks

D. Oliver
